Walt Whitman: Song of Myself
One of 200 copies, Utopia-Verlag, Weimar 1923 Song of Myself is a sprawling combination of biography, sermon and poetic meditation in poem form. Whitman uses symbols and commentary to arrive at important themes. Song of Myself consists of short sequences and dispenses with long stories. Whitman uses small, precisely drawn scenes.
About the artist: Trained as a biological laboratory technician, Claudia Richter studied under Mechthild Lobisch in the bookbinding class “Konzeptkunst Buch” at Burg Giebichenstein, University of Art and Design Halle, where she subsequently worked as workshop supervisor. Soon after graduating, she opened her own “Studio for Book Art and Design” in Halle (Saale).
She developed her own style, which is strongly influenced by her training and blends geometric austerity with subtle poetry. Every binding is unique, a successful work of rare delicate elegance, a “homage” to beauty. This in perfect craftsmanship!
