A catalogue raisonné

Bookfactory by Bubu, Mönchaltorf 2017 Thorvald Henningsen (1896-1977) was one of the most talented Swiss bookbinders and one of the few who mastered design, bookbinding and gilding. The catalogue raisonné published in 2017 shows around 190 master bindings as well as his work as a specialist teacher, textbook author, teacher and his involvement in various professional committees.

About the artist: After finishing secondary education, Rahel Scheufele worked for a year as a private tutor for four children in Morocco. From 2009 to 2012, she served an apprenticeship as a handcraft bookbinder. She subsequently worked for two years to practise the craft before attending courses for the master’s certificate at the Berufliches Schulzentrum Alois Senefelder in Munich. She graduated in 2015 with top marks in all subjects. As a master bookbinder, she then became head of the artisanal workshop at Bubu AG in Mönchaltorf. In addition to her great commitment to the company, she successfully takes part in international bookbinding competitions.

One example is the binding shown here, which won her first place in the Open category at the US Open•Set international bookbinding competition in 2020.
