Jacob Burckhardt: On the beauty of Ticino

Verlags AG ‘Die Arche’, Zurich 1978 Jacob Burckhardt (1818-1897) was a professor of art history and history in Zurich and Basel. In addition to his academic work, he also wrote poetry and short stories. Burckhardt is regarded as an important pioneer of modern cultural and art history.

About the artist: Roland Meuter might currently be the only Swiss binding artist who can make a living from this craft! He earned his reputation through his successful participation in competitions at home and abroad. He still takes part in large and important exhibitions and has an own stand at Frankfurter Buchmesse.

In his younger years, he also participated in Hans Rohrer’s filmmaking, contributing to several professional films on bookbinding techniques, such as making headbands, hand gilding or edge gilding.
