‘French Kiss from a Fighting Dog’ by Steffen Kopetzky is a novel that tells the story of a man who is in the midst of a life crisis and embarks on a journey to find his place in the world. The narrative is characterised by bizarre encounters and humorous situations that cause the protagonist to reflect on his relationships and life choices. The title alludes to the unexpected twists and turns in life.
About the artist: Edgard Claes OSC was born in Hamot, Belgium, in 1954. He began attending drawing lessons at the age of 12. At 16, he trained as a window dresser and advertising designer. In 1976, aged 22, he joined the Order of the Crosiers in the Sint Agatha Monastery in the Netherlands, where his great passion for painting, sculpture and, in particular, bookbinding flourished. Since 1990, he has been devising binding techniques using polycarbonate, which he fashions with a computer-aided milling machine and an airbrush. He is a long-standing member of the MDE, the International Association of the Masters of the Art of Bookbinding, and is regarded as one of the most original binding artists of our time. He teaches courses in the Netherlands and other countries.
