Derborence

About the content:

Charles Ferdinand Ramuz: Derborence

With 23 original etchings by J.A. Carlotti, no. 696 of 860 copies on Rives Bordas Éditeurs Grenoble, 1944 Derborence, a side valley near Conthey in Valais, inspired the writer C.F. Ramuz (1878-1947) to write his classic of the same name in 1936. Two visits and in particular the many legends associated with the great landslides of 1714 and 1749 made an impression on the Vaudois. Ramuz vividly describes what a rockslide can do to the landscape and to people.

About the artist: Franco Mombelli became a bookbinder through his father's friendship with Hugo Peller. His father owned a painting business. He completed his apprenticeship at Schumacher AG. He soon set up his own business in Solothurn. During this time, he produced many beautiful master covers for bibliophile customers. While Dominik Jordi, an artist friend, created the design, he focussed on perfect craftsmanship.
