Henry Jaeger: The winner or: The road to Marathon is long

With six lithographs by Alban Welti Ex. No. 49 of 65 numbered and signed copies

Ascona Presse, Ascona 1993 Born in Frankfurt in 1927, Henry Jaeger did military service in the Second World War. After the war, he was imprisoned for criminality and personal failure. From 1965, he lived as a freelance writer in Switzerland, where he died in 2000 in the Ascona poorhouse.

About the artist: Growing up in the Black Forest, Ulrich Widmann learnt the trade of bookbinder at the age of 16, just like his mother. At the age of 24, he passed his master craftsman's examination. Attending further training courses with Hugo Peller at cbl ascona became a key experience: the combination of art and books.

However, he started a family during this time and soon had three children to support. In between, he lived with his family in the south of France before moving back to Freiburg and working as a framer. It was not until 2009 that he started his own bookbindery with renewed vigour and now successfully concentrates on the art of binding. Today, Ulrich Widmann runs his studio in Freiburg and is an active master bookbinder, picture framer and gallery owner. He regularly takes part in international binding competitions and is an active member of the MDE board.
