Spiegel, das Kätzchen

About the content:

Gottfried Keller: Mirror, the Kitten

With 5 coloured hand lithographs by Victor Surbek Albert Scherz Verlag, Bern 1965, Duo Books

With this novella, the realist Keller continued the tradition of the animal fable. His cat Spiegel, so called because of his shiny fur, is suave and has the gift of saving his head by telling lies. In order not to starve to death, Spiegel concludes a contract with the sorcerer Pineiss, who must feed him until he is fat enough to be slaughtered. In return, the cunning Spiegel arranges a supposedly beautiful and rich wife for him, who turns out to be a witch on the wedding night...

About the artist: Roland Meuter is probably currently the only Swiss cover artist who can make a living from this work! He earned his reputation through his successful participation in competitions at home and abroad. He still takes part in large and important exhibitions and has his own stand at the Frankfurt Book Fair.

In his younger years, he also worked in front of Hans Rohrer's camera. Several professional films of bookbinding techniques, such as capital engraving, hand gilding or gold-edging, were made.
