Full French binding Binding with pieces of morocco and goat leather in 15 different colours, assembled in straight, imaginative shapes, three leather panels with blind-embossed lines, complemented by 8 different continuous wooden strips arranged in the same style as the leather pieces. No gilding and no title. No headband, but with a distinctive cap thickening, natural edge, round spine. Mirror in the same style made of leather and continuous wood as on the outside. Flyleaf made of coloured paper, plus three grey, dark blue and light green horizontally coloured stripes on page 1. Folding case covered with dark brown Arbelav fabric and lined with dark brown felt.

Anne Ullmann examines the life and works of British artist Eric Ravilious during the Second World War. The book highlights his role as a war artist who captured the lives of soldiers and the landscapes of war in his characteristic, poetic style. Ullmann also analyses his artistic development and the significance of his work in the context of the British art scene of the 1940s.

About the artist: Peter Jones discovered bookbinding when he took an evening class at then Brighton Polytechnic, now University of Brighton. Soon afterwards, he enrolled in the Certificate Course, which he completed with commendation in 1991. In the same year, he became a Licentiate of the Designer Bookbinders. He holds a number of certificates and awards, among them silver medals in the annual Designer Bookbinders’ competition in 1991 and 1994. Peter Jones was elected a Fellow of the Designer Bookbinders in 1995, served as President from 2005 to 2007 and has been a member of the Tomorrow’s Past group, an international group of bookbinders, since 2003. Besides teaching at numerous institutes and giving lectures, he has written articles for journals and took part in exhibitions all over the world. His work is represented in many private and public collections, including the British Library, the Victoria and Albert Museum, and the National Library of Wales.
