About the content:

Pascal Quignard: Ethelrude et Wolframm

With eight partly multicoloured aquatints by Maria Sepiol

Ex. No. 62 of 135 on Vélin Johannot as a one-off special edition by Claude Blaizot for the cover competition of the Société des Amis de la Reliure Originale, Paris 1986

The story was written in 1985, when Ethelrude and Wolframm are wondering about the emotions common to all human beings: Envy, trepidation and fear.

About the artist: After studying at the École Estienne, François Brindeau worked for renowned designers such as Georges Leroux, Monique Mathieu and Jean de Gonet. He then trained as a graphic designer. Today, he is a teacher at the École Estienne and is himself a talented, inventive and curious cover artist who seeks out new design paths. As a self-confident personality with an ‘assertive’ character, he helps his students to find their identity. He sets high standards for them, as well as for himself.

He compares decorative binding to the function of luxury packaging used to present a product. ‘The technology must make creative designs possible!’
