About the cover:

Full-grain binding Light beige calf with smooth spine, leather overlays on front and back cover in the form of 5mm wide deep red bands and rust-coloured areas. Rust-coloured spine title, gilt edges on three sides, hand-stitched endpapers. Mirror and endpapers in rust-coloured suede, edged with a very narrow beige leather band.

Half-leather chemise of the same calf, with leather edge at the front, covered with light-coloured wood veneer, lined with whitish suede, gold title on the spine. Slipcase: all edges trimmed with the same calfskin, surfaces covered with the same wood veneer.

About the artists: Jean-Paul and Colette Miguet are among the best bookbinders of the second half of the 20th century. They were active from 1951 to 1981. After studying bookbinding, decoration and fine arts at the École Estienne in Paris, Jean-Paul joined the workshop of the Bibliothèque nationale in 1944. There, he met Colette, who did binding and restoration work. In 1951, they set up their bookbinding workshop in the back of the bookshop La Renoncule in Paris. Their high-quality works range from purely classical bindings to contemporary creations.

They were convinced that the bookbinder’s cover design should never compete with the author or illustrator but should only interpret graphics and colours to perfection.
