‘The Enchanted Rose’ is a romantic poem that expresses the poet's longing for his deceased lover. Schulze describes a knight who searches for an enchanted rose that symbolises his lost love. In his quest for the rose, the knight must pass many tests and faces temptations, but remains driven by the idea of reuniting with his beloved. The work combines romantic themes such as unfulfilled melancholy.

About the artist: Pétrus Ruban was a renowned 19th- and 20th-century craftsman and famous for his artistic bindings. He was born in France and worked mainly in Paris, where he made a name for himself with innovative binding techniques and original designs. Ruban’s works are characterized by attention to detail, technical perfection and creative design.

Ruban was internationally recognized as a master of his craft and worked with contemporary authors and bibliophile collectors. His bindings were not only valued as cover for literary works, but also regarded as works of art in their own right. His works are considered highlights of modern art of bookbinding.
